Beautiful Bathroom Basins

Whilst many basin options on the market offer the chance to make a statement with colour, design-led shape or interesting material, there is more to consider when choosing a basin than just aesthetics alone. It is key for your basin to be practical for your personal usage and feel in proportion to the space it is in.

Types of basins:

  • Vessel Vessel
  • Wall hung
  • Vanity
  • Undermount
  • Freestanding and Pedestals
  • Double
  • Semi recessed

Basin features to pay attention to:

Material – Characteristics of materials differ and can mean the overall finish and cleaning care can vary between basins. For examples, a concrete basin has different maintenance needs to a glazed ceramic basin.

Tap holes – Consider if you have specific requirements for your basin tap/s. Different basins suit different types of taps. Many vanity basins will come with options for 1, 2 or 3 tap holes.

Overflows – Many basins feature overflows to prevent flooding; however, this isn’t always an option so consider if an overflow is necessary.

Waste type – Some basin designs feature integrated ‘free flowing’ wastes. Consider if you would like to have the option to fill the basin.

Bowl shape & size – Consider its use and if the basin will offer sufficient space. Design features can impact how effectively water washes away soap/ product debris in the basin.

Additional factors to consider:

Compatible products – As touched on above, consider other elements of the basin area before settling on a particular product, as your choice can affect what other products you purchase. E.g. if you like the look of a countertop basin, these are often only compatible with specific furniture ranges.

Space – Consider how much space you have to work with. E.g. A wall hung basin might be the best choice for a narrow space. Is there a comfortable amount of basin for manoeuvring around the basin and does it feel in proportion to the size of the room?

Installation method – Installation method varies dependant on the type of basin, with some involving more labour which can contribute to overall cost. Existing plumbing and layout can also be a factor in this.
